🌿 Music & Movement Mapping

A practical, year-long scheme to support children’s motor development through music

Music & Movement Mapping is a thoughtfully designed, pick-up-and-use scheme that supports children’s gross and fine motor development through sound, movement, and mark-making.

Created for children aged 2–6 years, this scheme blends music, physical movement, and creative exploration to help children build strength, coordination, control, and confidence. Sessions are play-based, sensory, and process-led, with no pressure for a finished product, the focus is on the movement itself.

The scheme is broken down into weekly focuses across the academic year, making it easy for practitioners to plan, adapt, and revisit activities as needed. Each session encourages children to respond physically to music using their whole bodies and a variety of mark-making tools, supporting both physical development and self-expression.

Designed with low preparation in mind, Music & Movement Mapping uses simple, accessible resources and works equally well indoors or outdoors. The calm, inclusive approach makes it suitable for a wide range of learners, including children who benefit from sensory or movement-based learning.

Ideal for:

  • Early Years settings and schools

  • Practitioners looking to strengthen motor skills through play

  • Settings seeking a flexible, creative alternative to formal writing preparation
