Starting Something New: My First Week

Well… week one is done. 💚

And if I'm being completely honest, it has been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Monday arrived and I felt completely lost.

I didn't have a clue what I was doing, what I was supposed to know, or whether everyone else seemed to understand something that I had somehow missed. 😂

Tuesday wasn't much different in terms of knowing what I was doing… but something started to change.

I was learning.

I was beginning to understand more about what I'd actually stepped into, and I found myself really enjoying learning about something completely new.

And the biggest surprise?

I've found it quite calming.

After spending so many years in a role where there was always something happening, something that needed fixing, someone who needed an answer or a million things competing for your attention, being able to slow down, listen and learn has been a really strange but lovely feeling.

That doesn't mean the imposter syndrome has disappeared.

Because, honestly…

It is STRONG. 😂

There have definitely been moments where I've thought:

“What have I done?”

and

“Are they actually sure I'm the right person for this?”

But I keep reminding myself that nobody starts something new knowing everything.

I'm allowed to be the person who doesn't know yet.

I'm allowed to ask questions.

I'm allowed to learn.

And I'm allowed to feel uncomfortable while I'm finding my feet.

So, after one week, I don't have everything figured out.

Not even close.

But I do feel excited to see what comes next.

One week down.

Let's see what next week brings. 💚
